Is Flexgate only on 2016–2019 MacBook Pro models?
That is where the name started (A1706, A1707, A1708), but similar display and backlight flex failures happen on other MacBooks — Pro 16-inch A2141, M1/M2/M3 Pro 14 and 16, MacBook Air, and 2020 M1 Pro 13. We diagnose by symptoms and torch test, not model year alone.
Do M1, M2, or M3 MacBooks get Flexgate?
They can show the same symptoms — lid-angle flicker, pink lines, or no backlight with a faint torch image — from flex fatigue or backlight path failure. The cable design changed, so repair approach varies by model. Bring it in for a free hinge and torch check before assuming you need a full panel.
My MacBook Air screen flickers when I move the lid. Is that Flexgate?
Often yes, or a related flex/backlight fault. Air models see this less than 2016–19 Pro units but we regularly service A1932, A2337, and M2/M3 Air with flicker or dim bands that track lid angle. Diagnosis confirms cable vs panel.

Why does my MacBook have vertical pink bars on the screen?
Usually a torn display data flex — common on 2016–2019 MacBook Pro and possible on other models. If bars shift when you move the lid, it is likely the cable. A smashed or liquid-damaged panel needs display replacement instead.
My MacBook has no backlight but I can see the screen with a flashlight. Can you fix it?
Yes. That pattern means the LCD still works and the backlight path — often the flex cable — has failed. Classic Flexgate on older Pros; similar on other MacBooks. We do not replace the whole display unless the panel itself is dead.
MacBook Pro 16-inch 2019 (A2141) — black screen with torch image?
Very common on A2141. We see backlight flex and display flex failures on daily-use 16-inch units. Cable repair is often possible; we confirm with torch and lid-angle tests before quoting a full Liquid Retina panel.
Can Flexgate be repaired without replacing the full display?
In many cases, yes — on Intel Pros, M-series Pros, and some Air models. Depends on whether the LCD glass is cracked, whether liquid entered the panel, and which flex failed. We quote both paths after free diagnosis.
How long does a Flexgate repair take?
